UPS package held pot, police say

GIRARD — A Campbell woman and a man listing a California address may face charges after police say they attempted to retrieve a package containing marijuana that was sent through UPS.

According to police reports, a UPS driver had been given a package to deliver to a Hyatt Street, Campbell, address Friday, but found the address to be that of a vacant house. The driver determined the delivery to be suspicious and brought the package back to the company’s Trumbull Avenue headquarters here.

Reports said other packages, originating from the same shipping address, recently had been turned over to the detectives.

UPS managers, as per the company’s policy, opened the package. Company officials found an 8-inch-by-10-inch box wrapped in clear plastic wrap.

Police were called and found the 21-year-old Campbell woman in the lobby of the business waiting to pick up the package. The 28-year-old California man was waiting in a car outside. Both were questioned by police.

The man and woman both told officers that they were sent to the UPS location by a third party to pick up a package. Both said they did not know what was inside the package.
