Today is the deadline for Ohioans to register to vote in the March 4 primary election. Many boards of election, including those in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, will have extended hours till 9 p.m. today to accommodate late registrants. To be eligible to vote in the primary, individuals must be Ohio residents and be 18 years old on or before Nov. 4, the date of the general election. In addition to the presidential party nominations, the March 4 primary will feature state, local and congressional races and local and school tax issues.

Heart-health awareness
for women set at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN — “300 Sisters in Red,” a women’s heart-health awareness event, will be 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 8 in Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Registration for the free event is limited to the first 300 women and is required by Feb. 29; call the toll-free Humility of Mary Healthline at (877) 700-4647.

The day’s schedule:

U8 to 10 a.m. — Free health screenings for: total, HDL and LDL cholesterol and blood sugar (12-hour fast required) and bone density (all three require appointments), blood pressure, body fat, computerized heart health assessment and stroke risk assessment.

U10:30 a.m. to 12:30 — Speakers on such topics as diabetes and obesity.

U12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — Lunch, massages, refreshments, interactive dance and fitness (wear casual clothing), door prizes and informational displays will also be available.

Sponsors for the event are Youngstown Chapter of the Links Inc., Humility of Mary Health Partners, American Heart Association, YSU, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Anthem.

Book sale planned

EAST PALESTINE — The Friends of the East Palestine Memorial Public Library will have a book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. If you have spare plastic bags, please bring them.
