RTI, union agree to extend contract three years to 2013

WEATHERSFIELD — RMI Titanium Co. and its union have agreed to an extension to the company’s labor contract, which will now expire June 30, 2013. It had been set to expire Jan. 31, 2010.

A release issued today by the company did not provide details but said the agreement would increase wages and pensions and provide more flexibility in staffing. The agreement covers 365 workers.

RMI said, however, that it will invest $30 million in the Weathersfield mill to increase melting and processing capability and upgrade current equipment.

The mill produces titanium mostly for the commercial and military aerospace industry.
