Only Value City Department Store to close

BOARDMAN — Value City Department Stores is closing its Boardman store in six to eight weeks.

It is among 37 stores being closed by a buyout group that acquired the Columbus-based chain in January.

Value City Furniture was not involved in the acquisition, so its Boardman store will remain open. That store and the department store are located in a plaza on Boardman-Poland Road.

Kristin Mack, a spokeswoman for Value City, said the new owners wanted to focus on a core group of stores but added that she had no information on how those stores were chosen.
