Etch A Sketch art on display at statehouse

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Statehouse this month is showcasing art made with a classic toy from an Ohio company.

Artist Tim George’s canvas is the Etch A Sketch, made by Ohio Art Co. of Bryan. Throughout February, visitors to the Statehouse Crypt will find 56 of the toys featuring George’s creations portraying the eight U.S. presidents from Ohio, as well as state symbols and images of the state Capitol.

George says he began making elaborate art by twisting Etch A Sketch knobs during a hospital stay for his daughter Ellie at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. The self-described Mr. Etch A Sketh and author of a book on Etch A Sketch art says his drawings entertained Ellie and other patients.
