Campbell man charged with firearm violation


YOUNGSTOWN — The passenger of a car stopped on the West Side for having no front license plate was arrested on gun charges at 1:45 a.m. Monday. Luis A. Gonzalez, 28, of Ninth Street, Campbell was video arraigned Monday on improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and two counts of having a weapon under disability, based on previous convictions. He was also arraigned on an old charge of driving under suspension for which a warrant had been issued in March 2007. Bond was set at $28,500 and preliminary and pretrial hearings set for Feb. 12. Police who stopped the car on South Belle Vista Avenue found a loaded .40-caliber magazine in Gonzalez’s pants and a loaded .40-caliber pistol under the passenger seat, reports show. The driver of the car was cited for no front plate and for having an open container of beer.
