Mahoning health board plans workshop on asbestos issues
CANFIELD — The Mahoning County District Board of Health will have a workshop Tuesday that will focus on environmental problems and regulations regarding asbestos during demolition of private and commercial properties.
The workshop is scheduled at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, McMahon Hall, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. Registration will be at 7:45 a.m., and the free workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This workshop is being sponsored in collaboration with Mill Creek MetroParks and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Northeast District Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention.
The agenda includes Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Health regulations on asbestos; proper disposal of asbestos and demolition debris; information on recycling options; and grant opportunities as a funding mechanism.
“This workshop is intended to help our local communities address the growing problem of blighted properties,” said Matthew Stefanak, health board commissioner.
