February 2, 1983: Warren native Paul Warfield, who had been a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins, is elected to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

A trucker is shot at six times in Columbiana County and rocks continue to rain down on others as violence in the nationwide strike continued along area highways overnight.

The Sharon Steel Corp. unveils plans for $25.1 million in productivity improvements at its Victor Posner Works to make the plant more productive. About 400 of the 1,200 laid off steelworkers are expected to be recalled. The workforce is at about 2,600.

February 2, 1968: Two 15-year-old East Side youths are lodged in Mahoning County Juvenile Research Center, accused of starting a fire at Science Hill Elementary School.

A formal complaint of assault and battery is filed against a 16-year-old North High School student by a teacher who says he was injured by the youth at the school.

The Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority may cooperate in an effort to provide federal housing for the elderly downtown for residents forced to move by urban renewal.

February 2, 1958: The Youngstown District, fourth largest in capacity for steel making in the nation, has kept pace with the big expansion in the industry, adding almost 500,000 tons in capacity in 1957.

Dr. Wernher Von Braun, proud parent of America’s Explorer space satellite, says the day may come when satellites could be used to transmit messages around the world. Just a half-dozen satellites could handle as much information as is now sent through the mail.

Former Youngstown Mayor William George Reese is indicted on a charge of assault with intent to kill Mrs. Anna Washok, 72, who had put Reese in her will.
