BOARDMAN — Registration for St. Charles School, 7325 Westview Drive, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school lobby Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The following information is needed at the time of registration: birth certificate; baptismal certificate; immunization records; child’s Social Security number; proof of custody, if applicable; and copy of child’s last report card from previous school (grades 1-6 only). Heartland school event
COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St., will hold an “Investigation Day” March 5 for students and parents interested in the school. St. Patrick registration
HUBBARD — St. Patrick School, 38 E. Water St., is now accepting registrations for grades K-8 for the 2008-09 school year. Financial aid forms are available, and the school accepts the Ohio Ed.Choice Scholarships (vouchers). Busing is available for pupils from Youngstown, Liberty, Brookfield and Hubbard. Fitch student leaders
AUSTINTOWN — Two Fitch High School students will represent the Interact Club of Fitch and the Rotary Club of Austintown at the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference in Salem Feb. 22-24. Andrea Dockry and Ashley Bowers will join 80 other area high school students for a three-day retreat focusing on leadership skills and interpersonal relations. Dockry, daughter of Mike and Marie Dockry, is a sophomore and involved in cheerleading, Spirit Club, track, choir, Spanish Club, Key Club and Interact. Bowers, daughter of John and Pam Percy, is also a sophomore and involved in choir, Spanish Club, Interact and competes with Krystie’s Dance Studio. The Interact Club is open to Fitch students of all grade levels and stresses community involvement and school service. One of its major projects is the paper recycling program, which saves thousands of pounds of paper from burning and allows it to be recycled.
Drama guild benefit show
BOARDMAN — The Boardman Drama Guild has been invited to perform the Broadway musical “Chicago” at this year’s State Thespian Conference at Ashland University in April. To help raise money for the trip, the guild will hold a benefit performance, “Broadway in Boardman” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and next Saturday at the high school, 777 Glenwood Ave. The show will feature songs from shows now on Broadway. Admission is $5, and tickets will be available at the door. The guild performed “Chicago” locally in November.
Ursuline placement exam
YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave., will administer its placement test for all incoming freshmen from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. next Saturday in the school cafeteria. There is no charge. Students should bring two No. 2 pencils and a calculator. To register, parents must call the school at (330) 744-4563. Placement in honors courses is based upon successful completion of this entrance exam, and the awarding of some academic scholarships are based on it as well.
District Science Day
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown City Schools All-City Science Day is set for Feb. 9 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. The competition is for grades 5 through 12 in the areas of Life Science, Environmental Science, Technology and Physical Science. More than 150 pupils are expected to participate. Superior projects will be advanced to the District 13 Lake-to-River Science Day competition.
ACT preparation courses
CANFIELD — The Ursuline Center, 4300 Shields Road, will be the site of Sunday courses to prepare students for the April 12 ACT college admission test. A morning course will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:05 p.m., and an afternoon course will meet from 2 to 4:35 p.m. for five Sundays beginning Feb. 10. The cost of the 13-hour program is $169. Registration is required and can be arranged by calling (330) 755-2710.
