Springfield’s hot start dooms Mineral Ridge


Crestview, South Range, Lowellville and Southern won league games.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield High boys basketball team took a 26-18 halftime lead en route to a 58-41 victory over Mineral Ridge in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game on Friday.

Eric Lipp paced the Tigers (10-7, 8-6) with 14 points. Jimmy Zubick chipped in with 11 and he had seven assists and three steals. Joe Musial grabbed seven rebounds.

Nick Miele led the Rams (7-10, 5-8) with 22 points and he pulled down eight rebounds. Zack Kiger had four assists and two steals.

Crestview 66, United 50

NEW WATERFORD — The Rebels’ (9-9, 6-7 ITCL Tier Two) balanced scoring attack included Jimmy Smith with 16 points, Jakob Leon with 13, Cameron Reynolds with 11 and Mark Einsiedel and Brandon Gates each with 10.

The Golden Eagles (10-7, 8-5) managed only seven points in the first quarter and nine in the second and trailed 35-16 at halftime.

McCavitt Carter and Jimmy Phillis scored 15 points apiece for United.

South Range 63, Lisbon 37

NORTH LIMA — Joe Mihlan had 13 points, Paul Landis 12 and Travis Wisler 11 to spearhead South Range (8-11, 5-8 ITCL Tier One.

Todd Padurean had 14 points and Arlan Bailey 12 to lead Lisbon (0-18, 0-13 ITCL Tier One).

Lowellville 71, Jackson-Milton 52

NORTH JACKSON — Jim Sudon had 16 points, Zach Matisi 15, Dave Minnie 12 and Mauro Amendola 11 to pace Lowellville (4-13, 4-9 ITCL Tier Two), which pulled away from a 32-29 halftime lead.

Ben Carlile scored 19 points and Bobby Schnellbach 11 to lead Jackson-Milton.

Southern 55, Western Reserve 45

SALINEVILLE — The Indians (12-6, 7-6), behind 23-21 at halftime, bounced back to take a 43-35 heading into the final eight minutes of the ITCL Tier Two contest.

Tyler Baker sparked the Indians with 21 points while Cody Gibson and Darren Mills chipped in with 12 and 10 apiece.Justin Lude sparked the Blue Devils (7-10, 5-8) with 13 points. Shane Ewing added 11.
