Fire destroys Austintown pizza shop
AUSTINTOWN – An early morning fire destroyed Papa John’s pizza on South Raccoon Road, causing in excess of $100,000 damage. There were no injures.
Fire Chief Andrew Frost Jr. said the fire broke out about 3:30 a.m. today and flames were shooting from the windows when firefighters first arrived on the scene.
Frost said it hasn’t been determined what caused the blaze because the shop was so badly burned. Some other businesses in the small strip plaza were closed because of smoke damage.
The flames were stubborn to extinguish, the chief explained, because the roof was layered with rubber and wood strips. The flames kept burning between the layers, he added.
