MEN

No. 4 UNC 91, Boston College 69

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Tyler Hansbrough scored 18 points, Deon Thompson added a career-high 17 and North Carolina routed Boston College. Ty Lawson scored 16 points, Wayne Ellington finished with 14 and Marcus Ginyard added 10 for the Tar Heels (20-1, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who had all five starters reach double figures for the first time this season. North Carolina shook off an eight-day layoff, took command with a 21-0 run that bridged halftime and turned the matchup of the league’s top two scorers into a blowout. Hansbrough entered leading the ACC with a 22-point average, with BC’s Tyrese Rice two points behind. Rice equaled his average with 20 points, but he was 6-for-15 from the field and 1-for-9 from 3-point range for the Eagles (12-7, 3-3), who were denied their second straight victory at the Dean Smith Center and went on to their third straight loss overall.

WOMEN

No. 2 Tennessee 68, Mississippi 44

OXFORD, Miss. — Shannon Bobbitt scored 14 points and Candace Parker had 13 as Tennessee continued its defensive dominance of the Southeastern Conference. The second-ranked Lady Vols (19-1, 6-0 SEC) won their ninth consecutive game overall and their 16th straight against the Lady Rebels (8-11, 2-4). Tennessee, bigger and faster at every position, strong-armed Ole Miss on the way to a 28-point first-half lead. But the Lady Vols’ 39-13 halftime advantage could have been wider.
