Event to raise funds to fight juvenile obesity
BOARDMAN — Fight for Fitness, a fundraiser to benefit a new local juvenile obesity prevention program, is tonight at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.
The event, sponsored by the Intellectual Capital Nonprofit Corp., in partnership with the Greater Youngstown Boxing Clubs and Powerhouse Gym, includes a dinner at 6 p.m. and 12 amateur boxing matches, showcasing talent from the Youngstown/Warren area, beginning at 8 p.m. There are also a silent auction, a keynote speaker, and guests from the sport of boxing.
The cost for the dinner and the boxing is $65 for individuals and $100 for couples. Admission for the boxing only is $15 per person.
The goal of the juvenile obesity prevention program is to provide a solution to youth obesity through exercise, nutrition and education for young people ages 8-19 in the greater Youngstown area, said Steve Jones, event coordinator. Participation may also include free membership and transportation passes to and from local fitness facilities, nutritional counseling and fitness trainers, Jones said.
