Pa. bar robbed of beer, chicken

The fire department had to bring a pickup truck to collect all the stolen food and beer.

SHARON, Pa. — Beer, chicken and cheese were stolen from the Litehouse bar on Division Street, and most of it was recovered in Farrell, Sharon police reported.

Capt. Travis Martwinski said police met Monday with the bar owner, who reported that sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. someone forced open an outside cooler.

Martwinski said two kegs and 25 cases of beer were stolen. The owner valued the food and beer at more than $1,000.

Martwinski said that after police spoke with the owner, he called an hour later to say he’d received a tip. A patron told him the missing food and beer were at a house on Hamilton Avenue in Farrell, and the residents were trying to sell it.

Police went there and found Joe Moss, 58, who lives at the house, and Calvin McDougall, 63, who lives on Cedar Avenue in Sharon, sitting in a car outside the residence.

Martwinski said an officer who looked in the car saw two cases of chicken there, as well as “an assortment of cheese.”

Sharon and Southwest Regional Police searched the house, Martwinski said, where they found more beer, cheese and chicken in various stages of thawing.

The Farrell Volunteer Fire Department had to come with a pickup truck to help officers collect it all, he said.

Moss and McDougall are not charged with the burglary, Martwinski said.

Southwest Regional Police said the two are charged with receiving stolen property.

Their preliminary hearings are set for Jan. 5.

A third person who lives at the Hamilton Avenue house was questioned about the burglary and stolen goods but not charged, police said.
