Newton Falls rolls past Hubbard in 65-59 win
Marcus Fowler helped keep the Tigers unbeaten with 14 points and nine rebounds.
NEWTON FALLS — Marcus Fowler, a 6-foot-11 junior, scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as Newton Falls topped Hubbard, 65-59, to continue undefeated Tuesday night.
Brian Sole added 13 points and Cody Dillon 11 to bolster the Tigers (8-0).
Curtis Drumond looped 22 points to pace Hubbard (6-2).
Lakeview 69, Brookfield 39
CORTLAND — Jarred Clark had 15 points and four assists, Mike Graham 12 points with six rebounds and Joel Davis 10 points to lead Lakeview (4-3), which charged to a 32-13 halftime lead.
Robert Franks contributed six points, six rebounds and four assists to support Lakeview, which made 28-for-51 from the field.
Greg Hunkus managed eight points to lead Brookfield ()1-4).
Champion 61, Niles 58
NILES — Ryan Frantz had 19 points and David Allen added 14 but Niles was outscored 15-9 in the third quarter to bow to Champion (2-4).
Tyler Day scored 14 and Mike Smith had 10 for the Flashes. Niles is 1-5.
Howland 79, Py. Valley 61
HOWLAND — Jared Kirin led all scorers with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Spence contributed 20 points for the Tigers (5-2).
Howland had a pair of 27-point quarters and built a 16-point lead (27-11) after eight minutes.
The Lakers are 4-2.
LaBrae 53, Salem 38
SALEM — Mike Morris and Cameron Truss each scored 17 points and Truss added six rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead LaBrae (6-2), which held Salem to 38 percent shooting from the field.
Salem (4-2) was led by Phil Bennett, who had 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Trent Toothman also scored 11.
United 53, Heartland Christian 49
HANOVERTON — Taylor Phillips scored 18 points and had four steals as United (3-2) held off Heartland. Jeremy Walker added 13 rebounds and Zack Taylor had nine points and four assists for the Eagles.
Justin Storm scored 23 points for Heartland Christian.
Mathews 81, Jackson-Milton 69
VIENNA — Junior Chris Morgan scored a career-high 35 points, including 13 in a pivotal third quarter in which the Mustangs outscored the Bluejays 24-11, and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Mathews (5-1). Seth Paddock had 21 points and 15 rebounds.
For Jackson-Milton (0-6), Ben Carlile scored 20 points.
Canton South 68, West Branch 62
BELOIT — West Branch reduced a 53-35 deficit to two points in the final two minutes, but still fell short against visiting Canton South.
Free throws helped the Warriors, who converted 15 of 29 to Canton South’s 7 of 16.
Matt Tressel’s 23 points topped the visitors, while Evan Campbell had 20 for West Branch.
Both teams are 2-4.
