Salem school board seeks applicants for superintendent post

SALEM — The city board of education is looking for a new superintendent.

The contract of Louis Ramunno, interim superintendent, expires in July, and the school board has begun seeking applications for the post. Ramunno served as interim superintendent for two years.

The board plans to begin interviewing candidates the week of Feb. 16, and it wants to fill the post by June 15 with the new superintendent beginning his or her duties Aug. 1.

The board will advertise the position, seeking someone with professional leadership capabilities, in professional trade publications, through professional networks and on the district Web site at www.salem.k12.oh.us.

Interested applicants are asked to send a letter relating their qualifications and reasons for interest, an up-to-date r sum and a copy of a current Ohio superintendent certificate/license or evidence that one is obtainable.

The board intends to offer a multiyear contract with salary and other fringe benefits to be negotiated.

The district has an enrollment of 2,065 pupils, a general fund budget of $17.6 million, 138 teachers, 72 noncertified employees and 14 administrators.
