Probe under way for animal abuse case on city’s South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — No arrests have been made and there are no significant leads to a animal abuse incident here today.

Dave Nelson, assistant Mahoning County dog warden, rescued a young male dog in the 400 block of Clearmont Avenue on the city’s South Side.

The dog, which Nelson said appears to be a small cocker spaniel, had a box glued to its head and then was placed into an enclosed area with pit bull dogs.

Sometimes dogs get buckets and things stuck on their head, but what happened to the rescued dog was a human act that Nelson called “really cruel.”
