Ohio police departments

With 2008’s fluctuating gas prices, some Ohio police chiefs are wondering what to propose in 2009 police department budgets to cover fuel costs. Here’s how some departments are coping with fuel cost overruns:

Mentor Police Department: Returned to city council in summer to ask for more funding.

Fairport Harbor Police Department and Geauga County Sheriff’s Office: Relied on falling per-gallon prices in recent months to meet 2008’s budget allocation.

Willoughby Police Department: Would cut back on training programs in 2009 if prices return to record highs.

Other departments: Waiting to see if gas prices move drastically before submitting 2009 fuel budget request.
