Schools serve hot lunches during vacation

CINCINNATI (AP) — A school district says the economy is so tight it’s opening its cafeterias during Christmas break to provide hot lunches for needy pupils.

It’s the first time North College Hill School district in suburban Cincinnati kept lunch lines going through the holiday break.

Jody Schott, director of Children’s Nutritional Services, which runs the district’s cafeterias, says the food stamp dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to in this economy.

Two-thirds of children at the 1,600-student district are economically disadvantaged, up from fewer than one in 10 a decade ago.
