Pediatric weight management program

BOARDMAN — Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering a nutrition and fitness eduction program for overweight children ages 8 to 12 at St. Elizabeth’s Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St. and the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman.

Two sessions of six classes will be available from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The first session will be on Mondays beginning Jan. 12 through Feb. 16 and the second will be on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 25 through April 1.

The goal of the program is to teach overweight kids the skills needed to develop healthy lifestyle habits and requires that a parent or guardian attend each session to become educated as well.

The class includes six nutrition sessions followed by a fitness session. The program also requires the child’s participation in two or more other youth activity classes from 5-6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Davis Family YMCA each week during the program.

Cost for the program is $40 and class sizes are limited.

Free spray flu vaccine

AUSTINTOWN — The Mahoning County District Board of Health is hosting a free FluMist clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at 50 Westchester Dr., Austintown.

No appointment is necessary and the FluMist nasal spray flu vaccine is approved for individuals ages 2 to 49.

FluMist is a live attenuated influenza virus vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza virus subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine.

Vaccination rates typically decline after Thanksgiving, although the peak of influenza season usually occurs in February and March.

Jameson gets rating

NEW CASTLE, PA – Jameson Health System recently announced that the Jameson Care Center and the Jameson Transitional Care Unit have received an above average, or four-star, overall rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

On Dec. 18 the CMS unveiled the “Five Star Quality Rating System” on Nursing Home Compare. Nursing homes received an overall rating based on facility performance on three types of performance measures: health inspections, staffing and quality measures. Nursing Home Compare displayed the star ratings for each of the three performance measures alongside the overall rating.

The Jameson Care Center, a member of the Jameson Health System, is a 78-bed, Medicare Certified long-term care facility providing skilled and intermediate care. The Care Center is a 70,000 square foot facility comprising 14 private and 32 semiprivate rooms. The Jameson Care Center meets the demand for high-quality, locally provided, skilled nursing care in a beautifully designed, fully staffed, conveniently located, long-term care facility.

The Jameson Transitional Care Unit is a skilled nursing unit that emphasizes that geriatric resident provide complete medical supervision and comprehensive resident-centered care.

Two decades at hospital

WARREN — Trumbull Memorial Hospital recently recognized eight physicians who reached a milestone of serving the hospital for 20 or more years.
