MERCER COUNTY | Common Pleas Court


The following people were recently sentenced in Mercer County (Pa.) Common Pleas Court:

Edward Luba, 39, of Monaca, Pa., was sentenced to one to two years in prison followed by two years’ probation for two misdemeanor counts of simple assault. On Jan. 7, 2007, during a domestic incident at a Charles Street, Hermitage, residence in which three other people were present, he picked up a shotgun, loaded it and claimed no one would remove him from the house. He also struck a woman in the face, bruising her eye and injuring her mouth and nose.

Larry Sharper Jr., 29, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to 30 to 256 days in jail and placed on four years’ probation for a consolidated count of institutional vandalism, two counts of simple assault and one count each of false imprisonment and criminal mischief. All the counts are misdemeanors. He was given credit for 256 days already served. On Nov. 3, 2007, at a Sharon house, he grabbed a woman by the throat, choked her, threw her against a wall and bit her hand. On Nov. 7, 2007, he entered the woman’s residence illegally, struck her in the face and head, and threatened to beat her if she called 911, then refused to let her leave the residence. He also did $600 damage to a police radio when he was apprehended. On Jan. 20, while an inmate at the Mercer County Jail, he plugged a toilet in his cell with a blanket and also broke a fire sprinkler device, resulting in flooding of the cell and more than $1,000 damage.

Brian Chisholm, 47, formerly of Sandy Lake, was sentenced to six to 12 years in a state correctional facility for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, a felony, for engaging in sex with a 6-year-old girl in March 2008 in Sandy Lake Township.

Jennifer Sedgwick, 29, of Prospect Avenue, Sharon, was placed on one year’s probation and ordered to make restitution for a misdemeanor bad-check charge. On June 21, 2007, she passed a $217 bad check at Walt’s Golden Dawn in Coolspring Township.
