Ursuline reaches tournament final
EAST LIVERPOOL — Ursuline improved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Linsly, W. Va., 66-45, in the opening round of the East Liverpool Holiday Tournament Friday night.
The Irish were led by Jamel Turner with 14 points, while Dale Peterman added 11 and Dominique Cole had 10. DeVonte Jenkins pulled down 15 rebounds for the Irish.
Pat Milton led all scorers for Linsly with 20 points, including six 3-point goals.
Ursuline coach Keith Gunther said his Irish played a “so-so game”.
“We didn’t play bad, but we didn’t play that well,” Gunther said. “The second half was much better than the first half.”
The Irish led 29-19 at halftime, but outscored Linsly 37-26 in the second half.
Ursuline will play for the tournament championship tonight against the tournament host East Liverpool in a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
East Liverpool 65, Beaver Local 45
EAST LIVERPOOL — Jason Dickey tossed in 25 points and East Liverpool outscored Beaver Local 38-17 during a run in the second and third quarters to advance to the final of their own holiday tournament.
Marky Tompkins added 16 points for the Potters (2-3), while Shaswn Mercer had 13 ponts and Brett Hunt 12 for winless Beaver Local (0-6).
