STATUE OF FREEDOM: The Statue of Freedom sits atop the Capitol Building Dome in Washington. The Capitol Visitor Center displays the original plaster model for the statue in its Emancipation Hall. The visitor center opened Dec. 2, the 145th anniversary of the statue’s being set in its place to oversee the national Capitol.
