First Congregational sets pastor installation


NEWTON FALLS — The First Congregational Church of Newton Falls, 612 W. Broad St., has called the Rev. Dr. Eric A. Bing to serve as its settled pastor. In celebration, a service of installation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Jan. 4.

The Rev. Mr. Bing has served as a pastor and supply minister in Ohio for more than 20 years. He entered the ordained ministry after working as a counselor for emotionally disturbed adolescents at Gaebler School in Waltham, Mass., and serving as a church fellowship youth adviser at Grace Church in Framingham, Mass.

As an ordained pastor, Mr. Bing served Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ in Lorain County and Newbury United Community Church in Geauga County.

Beyond his church duties, Mr. Bing worked as an advocate for adult survivors of childhood abuse. He also worked on a lumber crew, as a food photographer and live broadcast sports video cameraman.

Mr. Bing received a master’s in divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School, Newton Center, Mass., where he attended classes at Harvard University and St. John’s Seminary. He also holds a juris doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Henrietta, N.Y.
