STAFF REPORT

HOWLAND — Fire destroyed a house at 1427 Howland-Wilson Road Friday, the Howland Fire Department said.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, which began around 3:25 p.m. The family had no renter’s insurance, but the property owner was insured, the fire department said.

The department would not release the name of the family, but said the Red Cross was there to assist and believed they would be staying with relatives. The family came home from dinner and shopping to find their house in flames, the department said.

The loss was estimated at $45,000 to the structure and $40,000 to the contents.

The township department was assisted by firefighters from Bazetta and Vienna townships and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

No injuries were reported.

The cause is under investigation.
