Newton Falls holds off Windham for sixth straight win
Struthers, behind Nate Jacubec, defeated Beaver Local 67-55.
NEWTON FALLS — Brian Sole scored 12 points, Marcus Fowler had 11 and Cody Dillon had 10 for the Newton Falls High boys basketball team, which survived a late scare to beat Windham 46-44 on Tuesday and improve to 6-0.
Clayton Ridenbaugh had 13 points for Windham (3-3), which trailed by seven with a minute left and made two 3s to cut the deficit to one. The Tigers split a pair of free throws in the closing seconds and the Bombers couldn’t get off a shot attempt.
Struthers 67, Beaver Local 55
STRUTHERS — Nate Jacubec made five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead Struthers, which led 39-28 at halftime.
Nick Ragan and Matt Durkin each added 12 points for the Wildcats (2-4).
Shawn Mercer and Brady Gunter each had 13 for Beaver Local (0-5).
Lakeview 57, Niles 37
NILES — Joel Davis scored 15 points and Justin Clark added 12 to lead Lakeview (3-3), which took a 32-15 halftime lead.
Cory Floyd scored 11 points to lead Niles (1-4).
Champion 66, Bristol 50
CHAMPION — The Golden Flashes pulled away with a 20-7 surge in the third quarter to take a commanding 51-32 lead as they won for the first time in five starts.
David Barnes paced Champion with 22 points. Derek Sumner chipped in with 13 and Caleb Wright finished with 12.
Andy Holko led Bristol (1-4) with 24 points. Chris Collins added 12.
Howland 59, Salem 51
HOWLAND — Kyle Spence scored 20 points to lead Howland (3-2).
Howland shot 22-for-37 from the field, Salem 19-for-39.
Drew Guido added 14 points and Tyler Scott had nine rebounds and six points to aid Howland.
Jordan Strabala had 23 points for Salem (4-1).
East Palestine 51, Chaney 50
EAST PALESTINE — Matt Greene had 12 points and Ben Gysin 10 with eight rebounds to spark East Palestine (6-0), which held off Chaney’s late rally.
Austin Cope had six points and five assists to bolster the Bulldogs.
Anthony Kornwell netted 21 points to pace Chaney while Ken Strong added 12.
Southern 77, Toronto 73, OT
SALINEVILLE — Three sophomores accounted for all 12 of Southern’s points in overtime, including two key free throws from Eric Baker that sealed the game.
Trey Griffith had six points in OT and finished with 15, while Jake Boyle (four points in OT, 15 overall) and Baker (10 points overall) stepped up for Andrew Diaz, who fouled out in the fourth after scoring 12 points.
Mike Radvanski scored 20 to lead Toronto.
Lowellville 83, East Liverpool Christian 16
LOWELLVILLE — Making 57.8 percent of their field goals (33 of 57) and 84 percent of its free throws (11 of 13), the Rockets (4-1) won their third game in a row.
Mauro Amendola paced the Lowellville balanced scoring attack with 17 points and he grabbed seven rebounds. Anthony Schiraldi added 12 points and he had five assists and five steals. Mike Basista had 10 points.
Matt Rickerd and Taylor Shaw led the Warriors (0-5) with six and five points respectively.
Western Reserve 55, South Range 36
BERLIN CENTER — Zach White’s 13 points and Justin Lude’s 10 points and seven rebounds led Western Reserve (2-3, 1-2 ITCL).
The Blue Devils took control in the third quarter when they outscored the Raiders 15-5.
Joe Mihlan had 10 points to lead South Range (2-3, 1-2).
Youngstown Christian 68, Leetonia 62
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Christian (6-1) rallied in the fourth quarter 26-17 to prevail. Olonzo Johnson paced the Eagles with 17 points. Anthony Walker added 10.
The Bears (3-3) were led by Josh Selway with 14.
Kennedy Catholic 62, Wilmington 60
WILMINGTON, PA. — Kyle Randall scored five of his 28 points in overtime to lead Kennedy Catholic.
Carson Sharbaugh made a layup for Wilmington with six seconds remaining to tie the score 64-64 to send the contest into overtime.
The Eagles (6-1) made the first two baskets in the extra period and the Greyhounds couldn’t make up the difference. Jake Penn chipped in with 10 points. Randall has six assists and Aundra Jones pulled down 11 rebounds.
Shane Wagner led the Greyhounds with 25 points. Sharbaugh finished with 12.
