45 Penguins earn 4.0 GPAs in fall semester
YOUNGSTOWN — Forty-five Youngstown State student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade-point average for the 2008 fall semester, an all-time high for the athletic department. For the fall semester, 51 percent earned a GPA of at least 3.0.
The 4.0 student-athletes are Katie Wolf (swimming and diving), Elizabeth Shivers (track and field/cross country), Samantha Formeck (golf), Michael Lower (golf), Kelsey Kempton (soccer), Michael Turner (golf), Kara Cooper (soccer), Kelly Culbertson (tennis), Dominique Ward (soccer), Irena Lanc (tennis), Casey Holland (baseball), Stephen Blose (football), Marc Kanetsky (football) and Vincent Patella (football).
The swimming and diving team had an average GPA of 3.37 — best of the 16 sponsored teams. Eleven achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better. The men’s group to earn the highest GPA was golf (3.27).

The previous mark of 41 perfect grade-point averages was set last spring.
