Police continue probe of death in Craig Beach

CRAIG BEACH — Village police are releasing few details about the death for a 39-year-old Grandview Street woman found inside her home Saturday evening.

Police Chief Jason E. Brown said there were no obvious signs of foul play but said he wouldn’t speculate on a cause of death and would wait for a report from the Mahoning County coroner’s office.

The identity of the woman hasn’t been released pending notification of family members.

Police were called to the Grandview Street home about 5:40 p.m. Saturday.

Candlelight vigil planned

YOUNGSTOWN — Employees of Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home plan to conduct a candlelight vigil from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the Boardman United Methodist Church parking lot to “highlight the need” for a fair and equitable contract. For the past year, caregivers at Beeghly Oaks, 6505 Market St., have worked without a contract, said Pam Callaham, administrative organizer for Service Employees International Union, District 1199, which represents the employees at the nursing home.

Robbed at gunpoint

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man and woman told police they were robbed at gunpoint while leaving a South Avenue tavern early Sunday.

The woman, 39, and man, 41, told police they were leaving Teenie’s Tavern about 4 a.m. Sunday and while they were clearing snow from their van, two men approached them, drew handguns and went through their pockets.

The two men took the woman’s wallet, which contained personal documents but no cash, and fled on foot.

Police searched the area but didn’t locate the robbers.

Student robbed

YOUNGSTOWN — A Waynesburg (Pa.) University student said a gunman took his cellphone, earrings and watch early Sunday.

The 19-year-old victim told police he was going to a party on Ohio Avenue about 1:30 a.m. As he approached his friend’s car, which was at the curb in the 1600 block of Stewart Avenue, a man wearing a ski mask emerged and pointed an AK-47 at the man and his friend.

The two fled, but the victim tripped, and when he got up, the gunman pointed the weapon at him and told him to empty his pockets, a police report said.

The victim complied, and the robber then demanded his jewelry. The man surrendered that too and the robber then patted the victim down before running toward Wick Park.
