Consistent drops in Wall Street have caused state and county pension funds in Ohio and Pennsylvania to take dips as well, but officials said it’s nothing to worry about — yet. In Ohio, pension is dealt with at the state level and lumped into one fund. In Pennsylvania, each county is responsible for its own fund.
Ohio Pension Fund:
Number of retirees within the five local legislative districts: 5,710 people
Amount in fund as of September 2008: $69.3 billion
Amount lost from 2007: 16.4 percent
Mercer County Pension Fund:
Number of retirees in the county: 268
Amount in fund as of November 2008: $40.8 million
Amount lost from 2007: 15 percent
Lawrence County Pension Fund:
Number of retirees in the county: 251
Amount in fund as of November 2008: $35 million
Amount lost from 2007: 16 percent
