For your guests

Terrycloth robes: Provide guests with a thick cotton robe. Travelers rarely pack their own robes because they are so bulky. Stock a large and a medium or a generous one-size-fits-all.

Warm throw: A wool or cashmere blanket to use while reading a book or taking a nap is welcoming. It can also be an extra layer on the bed for a guest who likes to sleep warmly.

Extra pillows: If you keep down pillows on the bed, provide something hypoallergenic as an alternative for people with allergies.

Luggage rack: How annoying is it to keep your suitcase on the floor? Not only are racks good for unpacking, they can be used as extra storage during a stay. Designer Charlotte Moss painted her simple wood rack in black and trimmed it with fancy webbing.

Goodies: Provide toiletries that guests might have forgotten, such as shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, lotion, toothpaste, a toothbrush and cotton swabs. A hair dryer and bottles of water are also in Moss’ closet, as well as her favorite amenity: Mr. Bubble bath foam.

Hangers: Stock a variety of hanger sizes for pants, skirts and coats. Moss likes for them to all hang at the same height. A space-saving pants rack is great for ties and scarves. Most important, try not to stuff the guest room closet with your out-of-season clothes.
