FIRST NIGHT | Schedule


A badge available for $10 at a number of locations gets an adult into all events on New Year’s Eve. A number of organizations also are providing traditional New Year’s Eve meals.

Kent State City Center

6 p.m.: Cavalcade of Stars Radio Reality Review with Patsy Cline portrayed by Dottie Aiken Reynolds; a “Wolfman Jack”-style radio show; Randy and the Renegades; Abbey Road, Beatles tribute band; and Tribute, rock band. The grand finale countdown events start at 10:30 p.m., with hot chocolate and cake after midnight.

6 p.m.: Events for youths age 1 and up, including preschool playroom, and crafts, along with aerobics, magician Tom Phoolery, and a ball drop for kids at 9 p.m. Juggler Beonte the Great will perform at 10:10 p.m.

Masonic Temple

4:30 to 10 p.m.: Serving turkey dinners and sandwiches. Also, All 4 One; Stage Left Players featuring “Hello Dolly” tunes; Ali & Friends Broadway Hits review.

Memorial Building

6 p.m.: Chair massage by Moonstone Massotherapy, a fundraiser to benefit The Banquet in Salem, along with music. Also at 6 p.m., performances by the Allegheny Drifters, Stockdale Family Band, Dulci-More, Bill Schilling and Linda Sigismondi.

Elks Lodge

6 p.m.: Pulled-pork sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos sold to benefit Alchemy Acres along with entertainment by Drivin’ Wheel and After Midnight.

Episcopal Church of Our Savior

6 p.m.: Performances by Bill Schilling and Linda Sigismondi, Ted Thorne, God’s Quad, All 4 One Barbershop Quartet.

St. Paul Church Hall

4:30 p.m.: Kielbasa, sauerkraut, subs, hot dogs and desserts sold for Salem Area Amateur Radio Club. At 6 p.m., Danny Kaye’s History of the Court Jester, Salem Jubilee Chorus, Stormn’ Normn, Del Rezek Group Polka Band.

11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Artist Ron White will be carving an ice sculpture in front of St. Paul Church.

Carriage rides

6-10 p.m.: Carriage rides start and stop at the Memorial Building.

Historical Society

4:30-7 p.m.: Salem Historical Society will have a display in its meeting room of radios and related items of the past.

First United Methodist Church

4:30-7 p.m.: Carol Madison Catering will prepare pork loin, cabbage rolls and sauerkraut to benefit The Phone Booth, a local youth center.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

4:30-6:30 p.m.: German-style stuffed cabbage, roasted pork loin and sauerkraut.

MISCELLANEOUS

6-10:30 p.m.: Community Action Rural Transit system will provide rides to the various venues.
