Tips for homeowners

Crime prevention tips from police:

Burglars know to look for a hidden door key near the front entrance. Don’t hide spare keys under rocks, under flower pots or above door ledges — give them to a trusted neighbor.

Burglars prefer to enter through an unlocked door or window. When exterior light extension cords are run through a window and prevent it from being secured, the bad guys have an easy way to get inside.

After Christmas, don’t display gifts under the tree if they can be seen from outside. Shut the drapes or put the gifts away.

If you have a second car, park it in the driveway while you’re away. If not, see if a neighbor has a car that could be parked in your driveway.
