Lordstown toppled by Bloomfield, 47-45


LORDSTOWN — A strong third quarter wasn’t enough for the Lordstown High basketball team Friday as it was defeated by Bloomfield, 47-45.

Leading the way for the Cardinals (1-5) were Knight with a game-high 23, including nine from the free throw line.

Two other Cardinals had double-digits scores, Hostetler with 12 and Byler with 10.

Lordstown (1-5) struggled from the foul line, sinking only eight of 17 attempts.

Two players scored in the double-digits; Steve Cribley had 12 and Chris Polivka finished with 11.

Brian Whitfield and Billy Wright finished with six points, Zack Wells scored five, Mike Lee had three and Mike Shaffer finished with two.

Maplewood 62, Mathews 59

VIENNA — Alex Doneyko had 15 points to lead Maplewood, which held off Mathews down the stretch to stay undefeated in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.

Sean Zekkour and Mike Finch each added 10 points for Maplewood (5-0, 5-0).

Shane LInk had 17 points, Corey Lumley 13 and Collin Bowser 12 to spark Mathews (4-1, 4-1 NAC).

Kennedy Catholic 53, Sharpsville 43

HERMITAGE, Pa. — The Kennedy Catholic boys high school basketball team put three players in double figures as it posted a 53-43 victory over Sharpsville Friday. Jake Penn paced the Eagles (5-1) with 17 points. Kyle Randall added 15. Aundra Jones pulled down 14 rebounds.

The Red Devils were led by Jared Murrin and Jake Yatsko who scored 10 points apiece.
