Insurance policies for ’09 save money for Weathersfield schools

MINERAL RIDGE — The Weathersfield Board of Education approved new insurance policies with Indiana Insurance of Warren, which continues to save the district money on its insurance costs.

The insurance policies were approved from Jan. 9, 2009, to Jan. 9, 2010, at a savings of $1,879 compared with the 2008 to 2009 contracts.

The cost of 2008 to 2009 insurance contracts, which are expiring, was $2,570 less than in 2007. In addition, the district also will have $1 million more in coverage for blanket building and personal property limits next year, at no additional cost, district Treasurer Laurena Rouhan said.

Approved were fleet insurance at a cost of $6,300, $38 less than last year; property insurance at a cost of $16,062, $1,373 less than last year; liability insurance, from Feb. 1, 2009, to Jan. 9, 2010, for $12,523, the same as last year, and umbrella insurance for an additional $1 million coverage to general liability and to automobile liability at a cost of $1,341, $468 less than last year. Indiana Insurance is a member of the Liberty Mutual Group.

The board also approved setting board member compensation at $125 a year, the maximum allowed by law. The board’s reorganizational meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the middle school library.
