East Palestine wins on Gyin’s final shot 42-40


Columbiana and United rolled to easy ITCL victories.

NORTH LIMA — Ben Gyin scored the game-winning layup with five seconds left Friday to lift the East Palestine High boys basketball team to a 42-40 win over South Range in Inter Tri-County League Tier One action.

The Raiders tried a 3-point shot at the buzzer that just missed.

Austin Cope paced the Bulldogs (5-0, 3-0) with 10 points and he had four assists.

Gysin pulled down seven rebounds.

Mike Chuey and Peter Dinh led the Raiders (2-2, 1-2) with 15 and 10 points. respectively.

Columbiana 81, Springfield 68

COLUMBIANA — The Clippers (4-1) outscored Springfield 57-39 in the first three quarters, thanks to strong offensive performances by four players in double-digits.

John Harold led all scorers with 20. Tyler Denmeade had 17, Travis Denmeade had 14 andKevin Blinsky had 12.

Despite scoring nearly half of their points in the fourth quarter, the Tigers (3-2) weren’t able to overcome. The Tigers made 29 trips to the foul line, but sank only 18.

Todd Kibby and Eric Lipp both scored 17 points on the night, and Jim Balluck finished with 13.

United 71, Mineral Ridge 47

MINERAL RIDGE — Zack Lease collected 17 points and 13 rebounds while Jeremy Walker added 15 points with 20 rebounds to propel United (2-2, 2-1 ITCL Tier One).

Jason Ramus added 12 points and 11 assists for United, which held a 54-40 lead after three quarters.

Justin Lasher had 16 points and Cody Graham 13 to lead Mineral Ridge (0-4, 0-3).

Crestview 53, Lisbon 36

COLUMBIANA — Brandon Gates and Carter Hill each scored 14 points for the Rebels (4-1, 2-1 ITCL Tier One).

Jakob Leon scored 12 points.

For the Blue Devils (1-5, 0-3), Todd Padurean scored 15 points and William Boyer netted 10.

Lowellville 71, Western Reserve 57

LOWELLVILLE — The Rockets (3-1, 2-1 ITCL Tier Two) outscored the Blue Devils (1-3, 1-2) 43-29 in the second half to prevail.

Anthony Schiraldo, a 5-9 guard and the only senior on the team, scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Mike Basista scored 18 points and he grabbed nine rebounds, while Mauro Amendola had four steals.

Justin Lude led the Blue Devils (1-3, 1-2) with 16 points. Randall Ludwic finished with 14.

Southern 67, Sebring 51

SALINEVILLE — The Indians (3-2, 2-1 ITCL Tier Two) rolled to a 29-16 halftime lead and the Trojans (2-2, 1-2) couldn’t make up the difference.

Trey Griffith triggered the Southern balanced scoring attack with 22 points. Andrew Diaz added 17 and he grabbed 12 rebounds and had seven assists. Derek Baker finished with 13 points.

Travis Irwin led the Trojans with 24 points. Trevor Easton chipped in with 17.

Leetonia 76, Jackson-Milton 46

LEETONIA — Luke Newton scored 18 points while Andrew Trummer scored 17 and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bears (3-2, 2-1 ITCL Tier Two).

Jake McNally scored 14 points, Nick Altomare had 10 and Josh Selway made 10 assists.

For the Bluejays (0-5, 0-3), Bobby Schnellbach scored 11 points.
