Carter paces East past Chaney; Fitch loses 79-50 tilt to Hoover


YOUNGSTOWN — Kenny Carter scored 19 points to lead the East High basketball team to Friday’s 82-51 victory over Chaney.

Carter also contributed three rebounds, two steals, five assists and two blocked shots.

Trumaine Jenkins made 17 points and five steals for the Panthers (2-2).

Mark Thornton and Tyrell Henry each scored 11 points, with Thornton making five rebounds and Henry five steals.

Dominique Brown led the Cowboys (1-3) with 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

North Canton Hoover 79, Fitch 50

AUSTINTOWN — Tyler Fausnight looped 19 points to lead a balanced attack for North Canton Hoover in a Federal League game.

Jimmy Wackerly added 13 points while Dan Daugherty and Joe Gross contributed 11 apiece to also bolster Hoover (1-3, 0-1 FL).

John Williams netted 17 points and Jon Ballard 15 to pace Fitch (1-3, 0-1 FL).

Youngstwon Christian 70, Canton Heritage 39

YOUNGSTOWN — Eleven players got into the scoring column for Youngstown Christian (5-1), which built a commanding 57-24 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Olonzo Johnson paced the winners with 18 points.

Anthony Walker chipped in with 15.

Kenneth Will led Canton Heritage with 21 points.
