2 brothers sentenced to 20-40 years in slaying of student

READING, Pa. (AP) — Two brothers were sentenced Friday to 20 to 40 years in prison for their roles in the beating death of a university student in Pennsylvania Dutch country.

Terry Kline, 23, and Kenneth Kline, 22, both of Allentown, offered tearful apologies to the family of Kyle Quinn, 19, a Kutztown University sophomore killed last year. Quinn was attacked at random a few blocks from campus after the brothers and a third man left a bar looking for someone to beat up.

The Klines were convicted last month of conspiracy to commit third-degree murder and aggravated assault but acquitted of third-degree murder.

A third defendant, Timothy Gearhart, pleaded guilty in August to third-degree murder, admitting that he hit Quinn in the head with a wooden table leg during the fight.
