Sykes, North power Chaney in 71-45 win
Lisbon and United remain unbeaten atop the ITCL Tier One standings.
YOUNGSTOWN — The Chaney High girls basketball team took a 22-9 after one quarter and kept building on it en route to a 71-45 victory over host Youngstown Christian on Thursday.
Seniors Alyssa Sykes and Marcinde North had 17 and 16 points, respectively. Whitli Sanders added 13 for the Cowboys.
Senior Shaquilla Lawson grabbed 17 of Chaney’s 46 rebounds.
Youngstown Christian’s Sara Bell had a game-high 19 points with 12 rebounds for the Eagles (1-5).
Lisbon 63, Crestview 56
NEW WATERFORD — The Blue Devils (5-0, 3-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One) outscored the Rebels (5-2, 2-1) 17-4 to lead 31-17 at intermission and then held to win.
Mindy Jackson took scoring honors for Lisbon with 25 points. Megan Reynolds added 12.
Chelsea Bowker led Crestview with 27 points. Marissa and Hilary Phillis chipped in with 12 apiece. Shanelle Davner pulled down nine rebounds while Bowker grabbed seven and she blocked two shots and had four assists.
United 64, Mineral Ridge 33
MINERAL RIDGE — Eight players got into the scoring column for the Golden Eagles (7-0, 3-0 ITCL One) with Ruth Prosko leading the way with 18 points and Maggie Miller adding 12.
Abby Riffe scored nine points and had six assists for the Rams (2-4, 1-2). Megan Ben also scored nine points and she grabbed seven rebounds. Brittany Bevilacqua had six steals.
Columbiana 58, Springfield 52
COLUMBIANA — Katie Whitmer contributed 22 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for the Clippers (3-2, 2-1 ITCL One).
Kaylee Couchenour scored 17 points and made four assists.
For the Tigers (1-4, 0-3), Rachael Kennedy scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Andria Lyons scored 18 points.
South Range 41, East Palestine 35
NORTH LIMA — The Raiders (4-2, 1-2 ITCL One) fell behind 16-15 at intermission, but out-scored the Bulldogs (1-4, 0-3) 26-19 in the second half to prevail.
Abby Schuler and Gab Naples scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to pace South Range. Bre Hull scored a game-high 22 points for East Palestine.
Lowellville 50, Western Reserve 43
LOWELLVILLE — Emily Carlson scored 15 points and Jamie Hynes added 13 for Lowellville (4-1, 3-0 ITCL Two), which outscored Reserve 15-1 at the foul line.
Ashley Moore had seven points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets.
Claire Ferrando scored 18 points for the Blue Devils.
Leetonia 53, Jackson-Milton 33
LEETONIA — Gina Jones’ 16 points keeps the Bears (4-3, 2-1 ITCL Two) near the top in the league race. Lauren Ketterman scored 13 points and made six rebounds while Clarissa Perkins scored 10 points.
For the Bluejays, Maddy Griffiths netted 10 points.
Sebring 38, Southern 31
SALINEVILLE — The Trojans (3-2, 1-2), behind 22-20 at intermission, pulled ahead of the Indians (1-6, 0-3) 28-22 in the third quarter. Jill Bragg paced Sebring with 13 points. Emily Smith led Southern with 11.
Maplewood 50, Lordstown 30
CORTLAND — The Rockets (6-2, 6-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) built a 30-15 halftime lead and the Red Devils (5-2, 4-2) couldn’t make up the difference.
Michelle Sloan paced the Maplewood balanced scoring attack with 20 points and she had four assists and three steals. Brittany Rumple and Ellie Engstrom, who grabbed 13 rebounds and had four assists, each had 11 points.
Brianna Blodgett led the Red Devils with 10 points. Kelsey Wickline pulled down five rebounds and Lindsey Harrison had four steals.
