MCDONALD | Council notes

Village officials handled these matters during their meeting earlier this week:

Discussed a public hearing set for 5:45 p.m. Jan. 21 in council chambers regarding a change in zoning ordinances, one of which could prohibit outdoor wood furnaces in the village. Many homes are on small lots, and such furnaces require a large amount of wood and can emit a lot of smoke, which can cause health problems for some people, officials said.

Talked about a residence on Marshall Road that has been vacant about two years and was declared unfit for habitation in October by the Trumbull County Board of Health. The home likely will be placed on a demolition list, but before it’s razed, Solicitor Doug Ross will make sure there are no liens or mortgages, and take other legal steps, officials said.

Discussed applying for a small government grant through the Ohio Public Works Commission for about $219,000 that would be used to pave parts of five village roads. Slated for resurfacing are portions of Fourth and Fifth streets as well as Illinois, Indiana and Iowa avenues. No dates have been set.
