Campbell water line break found

CAMPBELL — A water line break that lowered water pressure throughout the city and sent Campbell Memorial High School students home at 1 p.m. Friday has been found.

The break, which city officials had been seeking for five days, was in a line that runs from the high school to the football field, concession stand and athletic locker rooms behind the school. The school had to be shut down while city crews installed a shut-off valve to the line leading to the football field, Mayor John Dill said.

The mayor said the city repaired water line breaks Thursday on Sixth and Gladstone streets, and hopes to have the water line to the high school repaired before school resumes in January.

Schools Superintendent Thomas D. Robey said it was necessary send students home because, without water, the school would not have working restroom facilities and drinking fountains and would be without heat.
