No. 17 Ohio St. starts off hot, cans Dolphins


COLUMBUS (AP) — David Lighty had 21 points to lead No. 17 Ohio State to an 81-68 victory over Jacksonville on Wednesday night.

Ohio State (7-0) led by 19 points early in the second half only to see the lead cut to five with 5 minutes left.

Jon Diebler hit his third 3-pointer for the Buckeyes, and the Dolphins never got closer.

The Buckeyes finished 10-of-17 from beyond the arc (59 percent).

Evan Turner scored 17 points, Diebler added 14 and Jeremie Simmons had 10 for the Buckeyes.

Lehmon Colbert had 14 points for the Dolphins (2-6), while Evan Jefferson added 12.

Diebler, Lighty and Simmons hits 3s in the opening 3 minutes of the second half to build a 56-37 lead. The Dolphins got within 67-61 with 6:46 remaining after Jefferson made consecutive 3-pointers.

After a jumper by Lighty, Jacksonville’s Brian Gilbert made it 69-64 with a 3-pointer.

No. 3 Pittsburgh 79, Siena 66.

PITTSBURGH — DeJuan Blair took control inside with 21 points and 16 rebounds, Sam Young and Tyrell Biggs scored 14 points each and Pittsburgh came out strong in each half to stay undefeated.

The Panthers are 11-0 for the second straight season and the third time in the last four. They twice led by 11 points in the first half before starting the second half with a 16-3 run that stretched their lead to 53-32.

Siena (5-4) had won three straight.
