Moore leads Boardman to 68-30 win over Fitch


Her 24 points and five rebounds paved the way against the Falcons.

BOARDMAN — Ohio State recruit Darryce Moore poured in 24 points and the junior also grabbed five rebounds to lead the Boardman High girls basketball team to a 68-30 victory over Federal League rival Fitch on Wednesday.

The Spartans took a 22-7 lead after eight minutes. Monica Touvelle added 12 points and senior Emily Abraham was credited with eight assists for the Spartans (4-1, 1-0).

Lauren Keller’s eight points and six rebounds paced Fitch (3-3, 0-2) in a game that didn’t count in the Federal League standings.

The Falcons suffered 15 turnovers, while Boardman turned the ball over seven times.

Canfield 47, Hubbard 22

HUBBARD — Jillian Halfhill had 13 points to lead a balanced attack and Canfield outscored the Eagles in every quarter to pull away.

Kalie Luklan added nine points for the Cardinals (3-3).

Cara Julian had 14 points for the Eagles (3-4).

Salem 52, Struthers 32

STRUTHERS — Amy Scullion had 21 points and Brittney Ritchie 11 to lead Salem to its fifth straight win.

Sophomore Katelyn Ardale had 11 points to pace Struthers (3-3).

Poland 52, Liberty 48

POLAND — Leanna Yeager scored 14 points to lead a balanced Poland attack in a close game throughout.

Lauren Tadla added 12 points, Erica Dodge 11 and Alyssa Testa 10 to also pace Poland (3-3).

Ashley Venable had 15 points and Melissa Dykes 13 to lead Liberty (2-5).

Maple Heights 55, Warren Harding 53

MAPLE HEIGHTS — Although Harding led most of the game, turnovers took their toll in the last 90 seconds as Maple Heights (5-1) prevailed.

Taja Walker had a game-high 19 points for Maple Heights, which converted 11 of 15 free throws to 16 of 30 by Harding.

Juniors Aundrea Baldridge and Jasmine Kirkland had 13 points apiece, while sophomore Kourtney Williams added 10 for the Raiders (4-2).

Baldridge missed a desperation 3-point attempt from halfcourt at the final buzzer.

Mogadore Field 54, Southeast 22

RAVENNA — Lauren Mulholen scored seven points for Southeast, which was outscored 16-0 in the third quarter to fall in a Portage Trail Conference game.

Field had three players in double figures.

Boys Late Tuesday Mooney 73, East Liverpool 72

EAST LIVERPOOL — Ronnie Martino scored 23 points and the Cardinals outscored 26-17 in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.

Marty Webb scored 16 to lead the Potters.

Boardman 48, Howland 45

HOWLAND — Ryan Pesta scored 11 points and J.T. Moore and Eric Soller each added 10 to lead Boardman (1-2), which rallied to beat Howland.

Jared Kirin scored 12 points for Howland (2-1).

Springfield 69, Lisbon 61

LISBON — The Tigers (3-1, 2-0) rallied in the third quarter to take a 56-47 lead in the Inter-Tri-County Tier One game and then held on for the victory.

Todd Kibby, Joe Musial, Devin Santangelo and Jimmy Zubick paced the balanced scoring attack with 17, 14, 13 and 12 points respectively.
