Democratic caucus selects Atty. Schiavoni to Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus chose Joe Schiavoni, a 29-year-old attorney who’s practiced law for about three years, to replace John Boccieri in the state Senate.
Schiavoni beat out 12 other candidates interviewed by the caucus’s leadership for the 33rd Ohio Senate District seat being vacated Dec. 31 by Boccieri, who is leaving to join the U.S. House.
Schiavoni, who specializes in workers’ compensation cases, has never run for elected office.
But incoming Senate Minority Leader Capri Cafaro of Liberty, D-32nd, who spearheaded the selection process, said Schiavoni was selected because of his strong ties to the community, is highly electable, and a hard worker.
Schiavoni said he knows he’s “got a lot to learn,” but he’ll work hard.
He’ll be sworn in on Jan. 5.
