WEAPONS BAN

The last time

The federal assault weapons ban, which was in effect from 1994 to 2004, prohibited the commercial sale of certain weapons by name and others with assault features:

BY NAME

Nineteen specific guns were banned by name, including copies of them. Included were AK-47, Uzi, Beretta Ar70 and Colt AR-15.

RIFLES

Those with a folding/telescoping stock, protruding pistol grip, bayonet mount, threaded muzzle or flash suppressor, or grenade launcher.

Pistols

Those with a magazine outside grip, threaded muzzle, barrel shroud, unloaded weight of 50 ounces or more, or semiautomatic version of a fully automatic weapon.

Shotguns

Those with a folding/telescoping stock, protruding pistol grip, detachable magazine capacity, or fixed magazine capacity greater than five rounds.
