MEN

Pitt-Greensburg 67, Bethany 56

BETHANY, W. VA. — Bethany rallied from a five-point deficit to tie the game at 53-53 with four minutes to play, but Pitt-Greensburg closed the contest with a 14-3 run to in a non-conference tilt. Bethany’s offense, which shot a dismal 28 percent overall (22-78) and 14 percent from the arc (4-28), was led by senior Petre Petkovski with 13 points, as well as a team-high eight rebounds.

WOMEN

Bluffton 58, Hiram 57

HIRAM — The Hiram College women’s basketball team erased an 11-point deficit in the second half, but fell short of Bluffton University, losing to the Beavers on a pair of last second free-throws in a non-conference matchup tonight. Hiram shot just 30.6 percent (11-of-36) from the field in the first half and trailed by as many as 11 points, 24-13, with 8:19 remaining before the break. The Terriers cut the deficit to six points, 29-23, thanks to a layup by junior guard Brittany Mayle at the 2:31 minute mark. Bluffton added a three-pointer to end the scoring in the period and take a 32-23 margin into the locker rooms.

Bethany 62, Marietta 49

BETHANY, W. VA. — All 11 players who saw time scored to lead the Bethany women’s basketball team to a third consecutive victory. Bethany (4-6) used an 11-2 run midway through the first half to pull out to a 23-14 advantage. Another surge at the end of the period, this time a 7-0 spurt to close the half, gave BC a 34-20 margin at the break. Marietta (2-8) used a three-point play by Lizz Wilson to slice the deficit to 38-31 with 14 minutes left in the half. But the Bison responded with seven consecutive points, capped by a three-pointer from freshman Anne Wilson (Saegertown, Pa./Cambridge Springs), to double their lead back to 14 and the Pioneers were never within single digits again.
