Chaney defeats Niles; Salem wins another
YOUNGSTOWN — Dom Brown tallied 18 points Tuesday as the Chaney High basketball team defeated Niles, 73-60.
Mike Parker added 16 for the Cowboys.
Charles Jennings had 12 points with five assists and Anthony Cornwell scored 11 points to spark Chaney (1-2).
Ryan Frantz registered 17 points while Saul Vaughn and Bobby Marino added 15 apiece to lead Niles (1-2).
Marino also had eight rebounds and three assists while Cort Floyd had eight rebounds.
Salem 53, Champion 48
SALEM — After falling behind 14-10 in the first quarter, the Quakers (3-0) held a 44-30 lead heading into the final period and thwarted a late surge by the Golden Flashes 18-9 to prevail.
Chris Brown triggered the Quakers’ balanced attack with 17 points. Jordon Strabala added 12 and Mike King had 10.
Calab Wright, David Barnes and Derek Sumner led the Golden Flashes (0-3) with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Newton Falls 58, Liberty 46
LIBERTY — Marcus Fowler scored 18 points to led the Tigers to their fourth consecutive victory.
Todd Medallis scored 13 points and Brian Sole 11 for Newton Falls (4-0).
For the Leopards, Anthony Cleveland scored 24 points and Floyd Showers 11.
Struthers 58, Girard 43
GIRARD — Nate Jacubec scored 20 points, including fived 3-point goals, and also had seven assists to lead Struthers (1-3).
Matt Durkin addd 14 points while Ed Ryzzaj had seven rebounds and six points.
Joe Augustine had 16 points to lead Girard (0-3) while Mat Pegano had nine points and four assists and Raymond Byrd five rebounds.
