Recycle that little black dress to make a big hit at parties

One way to save big this holiday season? Don’t buy a new dress for parties.

Let’s face it. A new dress is way more fun than pulling something out of the back of your closet. But chances are, that cute cocktail number from two years ago probably isn’t horribly outdated. The little black dress is timeless, right? And, though I’m sure your dress was unforgettable, fellow partygoers probably paid little attention to it at all once they were two martinis into the night.

I’m taking my own advice and recycling. (Shhh, don’t tell!) But I plan to update my look with some new accessories — a fresh bracelet, new earrings, a cocktail ring or a clutch. Yep, I definitely want a clutch.

If you decide to follow suit, consider these options for making things feel new even when they aren’t:

Add a pop of color: If you wear a black dress, don’t do all black accessories. Try a fun pair of colorful heels, or carry a brightly colored satin or patent leather clutch. Avoid adding too much matchy-matchy color, though.

Accessories add intrigue: Chandelier earrings bring drama. A statement necklace spices up an open neckline. But don’t wear too many pieces. Less is more.

Bring on the bling: Cocktail rings add nice sparkle without being too in-your-face or showy. OK, maybe they’re a little showy, but it’s the holidays, people! Have some fun with it.
