Man still jailed in theft of grandmother’s purse
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man charged with taking his grandmother’s purse remained in the Lawrence County Jail on Monday on $5,000 bond. Anthony Audino. 22, whose address is the same as the victim’s on East Lutton Street, was arraigned Saturday on a charge of robbery.
There had been a warrant for his arrest after the purse-snatching last Tuesday. Audino will have a preliminary hearing in Lawrence County Central Court at 9:30 a.m. next Tuesday.
The robbery happened around 8 p.m. as the victim was entering her house.
Someone wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt came up from behind her and snatched her purse, which contained $400 in cash and credit cards, she told police.
Audino emerged as a suspect after police found a cell phone while searching the area and traced it back to an acquaintance of his.
The acquaintance told city police Audino had plans to take “his people’s purse” and had borrowed his phone, a police report says.
