“NCIS” (8 p.m., CBS): It’s not such a merry Christmas for the “NCIS” team, which is forced to put in some holiday overtime on a difficult case. Seems that the prime suspect supposedly has been dead for 17 years.
“Behind the Scenes: The Working White House” (9 p.m., C-SPAN): Bill Allman, White House curator, provides an insider’s look at the many tasks that keep this busy place functioning.
“Breaking the Huddle: The Integration of College Football” (10 p.m., HBO): Before you lose yourself in bowl season, do yourself a favor and check out “Breaking the Huddle: The Integration of College Football.” It’s a fascinating documentary about the impact of the civil-rights movement on the sport during the 1960s in the South.
“Momma’s Boys” (10 p.m., NBC): A new, ostensibly unscripted dating series, “Momma’s Boys” has a by-the-numbers formula: three eligible bachelors, their three possessive mothers and 32 dishy young women, all thrown together to see if something sticks. In any case, it’s clear from the outset that the show’s casting people struck pay dirt. An otherwise routine concept goes ballistic thanks to one of the hand-picked moms, who, judging by how she talks, is a horror. A hateful bigot. A distaff contemporary Archie Bunker who has something ugly to say about every human color, creed and lifestyle other than her own. Never fear, she keeps everyone stirred up with her blabby wrongness. Even the ladies with their silicone breasts are upstaged. Consider yourself warned. So if you like this kind of show, you’re sure to like “Momma’s Boys.”
“The Real Housewives of Orange County” (10 p.m., Bravo): After time away from The OC, the series is back with the vipers of Southern California.
