Who do you believe: Al Gore or The Vindicator?

Who do you believe: Al Gore or The Vindicator?

EDITOR:

Last Tuesday’s Vindicator editorial, “Coal to liquid fuel project meets Obama’s energy goal” has to be the most ill-informed editorial ever written by editorial writers Dennis Mangan or Bertram de Souza. Talk about a work of fiction.

Just last week Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection, the League of Conservation Voters, National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club launched the Reality Coalition, a national grass-roots and advertising effort to tell a simple truth: there is no such thing as “clean coal.” The coalition says coal cannot be considered clean until its carbon dioxide emissions are captured and stored, and that until coal is truly clean, there should be no new coal-fired power plants built in America. The Baard plant cannot capture and store carbon dioxide.

“The coal industry has spent hundreds of millions promoting ‘clean coal’ technology, but in reality, there is not a single large-scale demonstration project in the United States for capturing and safely burying all of coal’s carbon dioxide emissions,” Gore said. “The industry must make good its promise if they truly want to do their part to solve the climate crisis. Until that happens, coal cannot be called ‘clean.’”

Mangan and de Souza want to sell newspapers to the “thousands” that plan to move into Columbiana County to work at the plant. Al Gore wants to save the planet.

Who do you believe? I’ll bet my 20 on Gore.

Help comes after the fall

EDITOR:

In this day, every one of us should be grateful for what we have and to thank God for all our health.

On Dec. 4, as I was leaving the Antone Banquet hall, I had a very bad fall. Thank God for the help of a very nice stranger. I believe his name was Mr. Laret. Where he came from, I did not know, but he was there to help me get up and get me into the hall, so I could get help for the bleeding.

The members who were there came to my assistance and helped with my recovery. They were able to get my son and daughter-in-law there to help me get to the emergency room, so I could get stitches and have my elbow examined.

I was not much help with anything until I got home. I began to wonder about the angel who helped me. To my gentleman, I give him much thanks. I hope all the world would help him this holiday season. Thank you, Mr. Laret, and the staff at Antone’s for being so kind.
